Is Ostarine Legal In Your Country | Updated In December 2023

In this article, we will go over the legality of Ostarine, also called MK 2866. By the end of this guide, you will know the legality of Ostarine in your country.

This article is updated for May 2020 and because of that it reliably answer the question; is Ostarine legal or illegal.

Let’s dive right in.

Keep in mind that we will only talk about the legality of Ostarine. If you want more information about this compound, take a look at my in-depth Ostarine guide. About the legality of other SARMs, check out my legal SARMs article.

Is Ostarine legal in 2020

Long story short, yes Ostarine is legal to buy and use anywhere in the world as of 2020. An exception, however, is Australia. We will go over the legality of Ostarine in Australia later in the article.

Ostarine is 100% legal to buy and use anywhere in the world. It’s not FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved yet. Because of that, companies have to sell Ostarine with a label that says “Research chemical” or “Not for human consumption”. This is because all compounds that aren’t FDA approved have to be sold under these labels.

This obviously doesn’t mean anything in regards to the legality of MK 2866. You will be able to buy and use Ostarine without any problems because it is not illegal.

Ostarine in Australia

In Australia, Ostarine is considered to be a Schedule 4 prescription compound.

This means that you can only legally use it if you have a doctor’s prescription for it.

If you want more information about this, read my article on SARMs in Australia.

Ostarine in sports

You have to remember, however, that Ostarine (MK 2866) and all the other SARMs (Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators) are listed as a banned substance by the USADA (the United States Anti Doping Agency). Because of this, they are prohibited by almost all sports bodies, including the Olympics.

Some sports bodies even test for the use of SARMs. You will test positive for tests like that if you have taken any SARM (including Ostarine) in the past 14 days. In other words, it takes about 14 days after the cycle to clear compounds like Ostarine from your body so that no tests can track it.

What the future holds

There is talk about a potential ban of SARMs in the USA and the rest of the world in the future. For now and for the next few years they are 100% legal to buy. This doesn’t apply to all SARMs though, only compounds like YK11 and S23 are likely to be banned.

Ostarine and a few other compounds (LGD-4033 and MK 677) will soon be FDA approved when they finish their clinical trials. But that may take a few more years. This means that they will almost certainly always be legal because of how safe and useful they will be in treating muscle wasting diseases.

To summarize, in the future some SARMs like YK11 and S23 will most likely be banned because they are so strong and not that well researched. They are actually comparable to steroids in strength. But other than that, Ostarine and other similar compounds will almost definitely stay legal.

Conclusion

So, to summarize, Ostarine is completely legal to buy and use in every country in the world. An exception, however, is Australia. If you want to legally use Ostarine in Australia, you will need a doctor’s prescription for it.

Companies have to sell it with the label “Research chemical” or “Not for human consumption” because it’s not FDA approved yet.

Remember, however, Ostarine is a banned compound for professional athletes. Because of the obvious advantages it gives in sports, it’s banned by almost all sports bodies.
